Just in case you don’t have time to click the link I wanted to post a quote after the list that has helped me in a variety of ways. ” Most of us have deeply embedded ideas about what’s right for education,” says Speicher. “But when you look at the world of education through the lens of design, you start to see that there isn’t one right an…[Read more]

Some of my 2nd grade art classes are separated into boys and girls groups (not sure why). I noticed a big difference, which I found disturbing, in the design products that seem to match what is marketed with mainstream toys an projects. Many of the boys were interested in solar power, robotic technology, etc. and many of the girls projects w…[Read more]

I am wondering what type of design projects you all are working on outside of the classroom. I primarily have used design teaching in the classroom and community center class settings. However, I also work within communities and would like to incorporate some design activities or day workshops style projects to engage community members of al…[Read more]

I read about Sister Coritas 10 rules for teaching on the forum here in the fall from the previous training. I loved them, printed them out and they have been a great helpful since. Just wanted to make sure everyone was familiar with those in case they didn’t read that forum. Check them out. Let me know what you think.

I would love to hear feedback and start a dialogue about how everyone’s design workshops are going. What have you all been up to?

I always plan to accommodate all my students at whichever level they are at so I love he design lessons because they engage all my students at whatever level they are at. The biggest challenge so far has been getting some students stop working at the end.

A few years ago I watched a documentary about design called Objectified. It was really good at helping one think about design a little further. It is a good resource for teachers before the design lesson or as a refresher. It may also be useful for older students depending on what age you teach. Check it out. Let me know what you think.

My kindergarten students loved the design challenge however the really needed guidance for a working as a team. Some simply refused to work as a team and kept trying to build their own design so this opened up a new opportunity to practice working as a team. I would love to hear feedback about others working with Kinder teams.
